Gabby hasn’t had an easy childhood. She’s a foster child who has been moved around a lot, mainly because men and boys are unnaturally drawn to her to the point of obsession. She’s grown wary of the opposite sex and become a loner because other girls resent her. Gabby also has a very unique gift she doesn’t understand. In her mind she can see colored lights that represent the life force of every person around her. The lights are always the same color, yellow with a green halo. One night she sees a blue light and that’s the night her life changes forever. Drawn into a hidden world of werewolves, she finds a place to belong, even as she resists their strange rites known as the Introductions. Then she meets Clay and it’s game over.
I didn’t know what to expect at when I started to read this book and I was prepared for another girl-meets-werewolf type story. But this book took me by surprise and knocked me backwards with its different approach to a usually typical love story. It was one of the sweetest, most beautiful love stories I’ve read in a long time.
If you like a strong female lead who is determined to make her own way in life and not be coerced or pushed into something she doesn’t want, you’ll love Gabby. If you like a male who, through his actions and his total devotion, wins the girl’s trust and heart, you’ll fall in love with Clay.
The characters, the voice, the pacing all blended to make this book so captivating for me that I could not put it down. I read it in one sitting and bought book 2 immediately. That says a lot coming from someone with dozens of books sitting on her kindle waiting to be read.
